One
of the first all-metal stressed skin aircraft built in Japan, it
was also the Japanese Navy's first monoplane fighter. It was widely
used in the Sino-Japanese War, and tangled with the A.V.G. "Flying
Tigers" of A.V.G. fame in China. Although not present at the
attack on Pearl Harbor, it accounted for the highest number of Japanese
Navy fighters at that time.
The Original master of this representation was made by Dave Thompson
in the early 1990's. It is now being reworked to provide subtle
panel lines, better cockpit detail, and other nice features such
as bombs and improved drop tank. It will include white metal parts,
standing pilot figure and decals. It has a single piece wing,
single piece fuselage, and a two part cowl. We have left the simplicity
of design in place and this will be a great kit for the first
time resin kit builder. It builds up beautifully and is a must
have. The decal options provide for some 'bare' aluminum finish,
as well as the light gray paint version.
